The internal road network at ORD forms a hexagon, with Terminals 1, 2, and 3 located along the lower three sides, and the Multi-Modal Facility (for car rentals) and parking lots and I-190 positioned in the upper half.

Terminals 1, 2, and 3 are domestic terminals, interconnected by pedestrian walkways.

Terminal 5, the newest addition, is situated a short distance away and is accessible via shuttle services and the Airport Transit System (ATS). It is designated as the international terminal; however, while some international flights depart from other terminals, all international arrivals are directed to Terminal 5.

The Air Canada terminal (Terminal 2) comprises 41 gates distributed between two concourses. Concourse E includes gates E1 to E17, while Concourse F encompasses gates F1, F3 to F7, F9 to F12, F14 to F17, and F19 to F28.

The gates with lower numbers are located in the main terminal, with E gates on the right side and F gates on the left side, until the terminal branches into separate concourses, as shown in the map above.

Transportation Options at Air Canada’s Terminal at ORD

Transportation services are available on both the upper and lower levels outside each terminal, clearly marked with overhead and floor signage.

Trains

  • CTA Blue Line Trains: Operated by the Chicago Transit Authority, this underground train service connects the airport to the Blue Line. Running 24/7, it takes about 40 to 45 minutes to reach the Chicago Loop (downtown). The ORD station is located at Terminal 2 on the lower level of the main parking garage. Look for signs that say “Trains to City.”
  • Metra: This commuter train service links downtown Chicago with the suburbs. The North Central Service stops at the O’Hare Transfer Station on the northeast side of the airport. To get there, take a shuttle bus from the upper levels of Terminals 1 to 3 or the lower level of Terminal 5. Alternatively, you can take the shuttle to the Multi-Modal Facility and walk a short distance to the station.

Buses operate from the “Bus/Shuttle Center” on level 1 of the main parking garage.

  • Pace: Pace buses offer routes to downtown Chicago and beyond. Route 250 runs daily to downtown from bus bay 9 at the Multi-Modal Facility.
  • Regional Bus: For travel outside the Chicago area, numerous regional bus services are available. Check the airport’s website for details on operators.

Shuttles

Private and shared shuttles can be pre-booked. Go Airport Express is one option, with pick-up and drop-off outside baggage claim on the lower level. Other shuttles operate from the Bus/Shuttle Center.

Taxis

Taxis are available outside baggage claim on the lower level of each terminal. A ride to downtown Chicago typically costs around $30 to $40.

Limousines

Both pre-arranged and on-demand limousine services are available at each terminal, with pick-up on the lower level center road lane outside baggage claim.

Valet Parking

Air Canada Destinations from ORD

Airside Transport Post-security

However, the service is only available to you if you don’t need to collect your luggage between connecting flights or are arriving on an international flight with a flight connection involving a T1 to T3 transfer.

The TTB service operates from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily, and departs from these gates in T3:

Walking

Terminals 1, 2, and 3 are connected via airside walkways. You can use the airside walkways if you’re arriving on a domestic flight and connecting to another domestic flight. 

The walkway from: 

  • Terminal 1 to Terminal 2 is located opposite B5 and B6 on the departure level and will get you to Terminal 2 near gate E1. 
  • Terminal 2 to Terminal 3 is located near gate F1 and will get you to Terminal 3’s rotunda.

The walking time will depend on your Concourse and Gates. The maximum distance between two terminals is between T1 (in Concourse C) and T3 in (Concourse L)—a little over one mile—and typically takes about 20 minutes. 

Landside Transport Pre-security

The Airport Transit System (ATS) light rail stops at all terminals outside the secure area, meaning that you will have to re-clear security at the connecting terminal. All ATS stations are located landside and marked by ATS signage. The trains operate in both directions at a fairly good frequency.
