Terminal 4 at JFK is situated in the southern part of the airport. 

• It has 43 gates spread across Concourses A and B. 
• There are 4 major areas in Terminal 4:
  • The check-in desks and airline lounges are located on the departure level 
  • The departure gates, security checkpoint, pet relief area, restaurants, bars, and shops are located on the concourse level

Concourse A of Terminal 4 is situated on the east side.

• Information Services: You’ll find customer care agents in red jackets in all terminals. Plus, the arrival halls in all terminals have a welcome center to help you with information regarding travel, accommodations, etc.
• Travelers Aid desks are located in the welcome center of all terminals on the arrivals level. Additionally, the retail hall in Terminal 4 as well as the departures level in Terminal 8 have a traveler aid desk each.

Transportation Options at JFK Airport

JFK offers several transportation options outside each terminal—such as trains, public buses, shuttles, taxis, and rideshare services.

• Trains
  • AirTrain: The AirTrain stops at all terminals. To connect to New York and beyond, you can take the Green Line serving Howard Beach, or the Red Line serving Jamaica Station. The fee by MetroCard is $8 for starting or ending your journey at any of these stations. However, you can travel between stops at no charge. 
  • Subway (MTA): You can take the NYC subway from the start and end points of the AirTrain. You can connect to Manhattan by taking the A Line from Howard Beach and Lines Z, J, and E from Jamaica. The trip to JFK from Midtown Manhattan (Penn Station) takes roughly 50 minutes and costs $10.75 (AirTrain: $8 plus subway: $2.75).
  • Long Island Rail Road (LIRR): The Long Island Rail Road serves Manhattan, Long Island (several stations), and Brooklyn from Jamaica Station.
• Public Buses

MTA buses are among the cheapest way to travel to or from JFK Airport. You’ll find them outside Terminal 5. A one-way trip to the airport from Brooklyn or Long Island on the Q10, Q3, and B15 routes typically costs $2.75, which you can pay by cash or MetroCard. 

• Shuttles

You can take a private or shared-ride shuttle to/from JFK Airport to several parts of New York and nearby airports. If you’re landing in New York, you can book a shuttle at the Welcome Center of your terminal. Your hotel or car parking area may also offer shuttle rides, so do check before booking your mode of transport. 

• Taxis

Taxis at JFK can be found outside each terminal. The flat rate from JFK to Manhattan is $52. If you’re traveling between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. on a weekday, you’ll also have to pay a surcharge of $4.50. 

• Rideshare 

You can order a ride via Lyft and Uber between JFK Airport and areas around it, including but not limited to Manhattan. The pick-up and drop-off points are situated outside of each terminal. 

Parking Facilities at JFK

JFK Airport offers five open parking lots, with four located close to the terminals, ideal for short-term parking or those willing to pay a premium. The Long-Term Parking Lot is situated four miles away from the terminals and is accessible via the AirTrain. Current parking lot capacities can be checked on the airport’s website.

Short-term Terminal Parking

Short-term parking options include the Blue, Red, Orange, and Yellow lots, as the Green lot is currently closed due to Terminal 1 renovations. Blue parking is near Terminal 4, Yellow is near Terminal 5, Orange is near Terminal 7, and Red is near Terminal 8, though you can park in any lot regardless of your terminal.

• Orange and Red lots: $4 for the first 30 minutes, $8 for the first hour, and $4 for each additional 30 minutes, with a daily maximum of $65. Pre-booked rates are $36 per day.
• Yellow and Blue lots: $6 for the initial 30 minutes, $12 for the initial hour, and $6 for each additional 30 minutes, with a daily maximum of $70. Pre-booked rates are $42 per day.

Long-term Parking Lot

The long-term parking is located about 4 miles from the airport at Lefferts Boulevard and has an AirTrain station for easy terminal access. The rates are $29 for the first 24 hours and $14.50 for each additional 8 hours. Pre-booked daily rates are available for $20.

Pick-up or Drop-off Parking

Parking or waiting outside any of the terminals is prohibited. Drivers must use a short-term parking lot. For free parking, there are two cell phone lots where drivers can wait until passengers call for pickup. These lots are located off the Van Wyck Expressway and JFK Expressway, and drivers must stay with their vehicles.

Kiss and Fly

To avoid terminal traffic, use the Kiss & Fly area located at Long Term Parking Lot 9. You can take a free ride on the AirTrain to your terminal from Lefferts Blvd Stn.

Parking for Disabled Passengers 

All short-term and long-term parking lots have designated spaces for passengers with disabilities. Rates are $4 for the first 30 minutes, $8 for the first hour, and $4 for each additional 30 minutes, with a daily maximum of $29. Security and Customs at the JetBlue Terminal, JFK International Airport 

Each terminal has separate security checkpoints. The recommended check-in time is 2 hours before departure for domestic flights and 3 hours before departure for international flights.

TSP PreCheck

Inter-Terminal Transport at JFK

AirTrain (Before Security)

With construction going on at Terminal 1, the AirTrain, which previously had three routes, now operates with just two active lines. Terminal 1 is temporarily served by shuttle buses connecting to Terminals 4 and 8.

Currently, only two lines are active—Red and Green. 

• The Red Line travels from Jamaica Station and stops at Terminals 8, 7, 5, and 4. 
• The Green runs from Howard Beach Station, making a few stops before reaching Terminals 4, 5, 7, and 8.

The AirTrain is free for passengers moving between terminals, Lefferts Boulevard stations, and Federal Circle. To travel beyond these areas, you’ll have to pay additional fees.
